MMJ Patients: Contents
Prospective Patients Information
How to obtain valid documentation under RCW 69.51A.010:
- Read the statute (here).
- Determine whether you likely suffer from a qualifying medical condition...e.g. Glaucoma, spasticity, intractable pain...not handled well by traditional pharmaceuticals, or their side effects.
- Print out the forms for "valid documentation", and physician's discussion (here).
- Additional conditions accepted/rejected by MQAC
CAUTION!!! CAUTION!!!
CURRENT JUDICIAL INTERPRETATION OF RCW TITLE 69 HOLDS THAT "VALID DOCUMENTATION" MUST BE SIGNED BY A PHYSICIAN LICENSED TO PRACTICE IN WASHINGTON STATE...

-
Take everything to your attending physician (including, if you feel it appropriate, some of the medical background materials (here). Remember, your attending physician knows your medical condition best, knows what other medicines you are taking, and is in the best position to advise you of the comparative risks and benefits of mmj. If your attending physician is opposed to mmj, don*t get angry. He/she may be worried about risks to you, or to his/her practice. Ask instead for advice about an independent consultation...e.g. Would it adversely affect your physician/patient relationship?; are there special risks concerning your health, or other medications you may take that should be pointed out to a consulting physician?; are there certain materials in your chart or history which should be pointed out to a consultant?
- If you have no current attending physician, or if your physician is unwilling to even discuss the risks or benefits of mmj, you may wish to visit a clinic specializing in medical marijuana treatment. THCF (The Hemp Cannabis Foundation) presently operates clinics in Oregon (1-503-235-4606; 1-503-281-5100), and Washington (1-206-878-1701). Remember: valid documentation for Washington must be signed by a physician licensed in Washington.
- Do not go empty-handed. In addition to a clinical exam, and possible lab or other tests, any physician will want to review a copy of your medical charts.
Reread the statute (here).
